The Enterprise Requirements & Use Cases Working Group is the demand-side voice of the Open Device Alliance. It captures real-world deployment challenges across vertical industries, captures documented PCN deployment barriers, and translates Enterprise needs into prioritized requirements.
Every ODA specification begins with a deployment that did not work. This Working Group is where those failures are collected, described in enough detail to be reproducible, and ranked against one another — so the Alliance spends its engineering effort on the barriers blocking the most deployments, not the ones that happen to be easiest to solve.
Enterprise Requirements & Use Cases captures documented deployment barriers from the field and translates them into prioritized enterprise requirements.
Device Capabilities & Specifications charters a task group against each prioritized requirement and ratifies the normative implementation specification.
View WG2 →Test & Certification converts each ratified specification into an executable test suite, validates devices across vendor platforms, and issues the ODA Enabled designation.
View WG3 →The Working Group maintains active engagement and use case documentation across 12 deployment verticals. Each brings its own device mix, regulatory constraints, and failure modes — and each is represented when requirements are prioritized.
Private cellular for factory automation, robotics coordination, and real-time process control across manufacturing floors and industrial campuses.
Secure, low-latency connectivity for medical devices, patient monitoring, and connected care environments requiring carrier-grade reliability.
Always-on wireless for automated guided vehicles, inventory tracking, and real-time asset management across large-scale distribution centers.
Mission-critical push-to-talk, real-time video, and situational awareness over private LTE/5G for law enforcement, fire, and emergency services.
Ruggedized private networks for underground and open-pit operations, enabling remote equipment control, worker safety monitoring, and environmental sensing.
High-throughput connectivity for port logistics, cargo tracking, autonomous vehicle coordination, and rail network management.
Scalable private and hybrid cellular for traffic management, utility grid monitoring, public Wi-Fi offload, and municipal IoT deployments.
Integrated private networks for airside operations, ground support equipment tracking, passenger flow management, and security systems.
Explosion-proof private LTE/5G for upstream and downstream operations, remote monitoring, predictive maintenance, and worker safety in hazardous environments.
Secure, sovereign private cellular architectures for tactical operations, base connectivity, and interoperable communications across allied forces.
High-density private wireless for corporate headquarters, multi-building campuses, and enterprise IoT enabling smart building automation, access control, and mobility services.
Affordable, manageable private LTE/5G for K-12 schools and higher education institutions supporting digital equity, device connectivity, and secure network segmentation.
This Working Group is driven by enterprise and industry input. The items below are being scoped as the group scales. We value the voice of the Enterprise — bring your use case requirements to ODA and drive meaningful change in the device ecosystem.
Systematic documentation of the technical, regulatory, and procurement barriers to private cellular adoption across the industry verticals ODA covers.
Guidelines for mapping ODA-certified device capabilities back to enterprise deployment requirements, so each vertical can assess which certifications actually matter for its environment.
We are actively recruiting enterprise operators, systems integrators, and vertical-domain experts. Submit your interest below and the Working Group chair will follow up.
