ODA Working Group 3

Test & Certification

Validating Enterprise device readiness

Converting ratified specifications into executable test suites, verifying interoperability across Private RAN and core platforms, and governing the ODA Enabled certification program.

Mandate

Overview

The Test & Certification Working Group is the validation and quality assurance arm of the Open Device Alliance. It converts technical specifications into executable test suites, verifies interoperability across Private RAN and Core platforms, and governs the official ODA Enabled certification program to deliver trusted procurement guidance for the enterprise. Today every enterprise evaluating a device repeats the same qualification work in isolation — expensive, inconsistent, and duplicated across the whole market. This Working Group does that work once, in the open, so procurement can rest on a vendor-neutral, auditable signal rather than manufacturer self-reporting.

Principles

Scope

Specification-Driven: Every test case derives from a ratified Device Capabilities & Specifications document.
Multi-Vendor Interoperability: Devices are validated across Private RAN and core platform combinations, not one reference network.
Independent Validation: Results are produced independently of OEMs and network vendors, then published openly.

Process

How Certification Works

Requirements arrive from WG1 and become specifications in WG2. This group turns each ratified specification into an executable test suite, then runs the four-step process that issues the ODA Enabled designation.

WG1Requirements
WG2Specification
WG3Test & Certification
01
Test Suite Execution

An ODA authorized test lab executes the applicable conformance and interoperability test suites against the device, across the RAN and core platform combinations in scope.

02
Results Submission & Technical Review

The full test report is submitted to WG3, which reviews it for completeness, methodology compliance, and conformance to the applicable ratified specification.

03
Certification Vote

WG3 members vote to approve or defer the certification request. Approval requires consensus among participating WG3 members.

04
ODA Enabled Badge Issued

Upon approval, the device is listed in the ODA Device Registry and the manufacturer may display the ODA Enabled designation.

In Development

Test Suites

Suites are authored only after the source specification is ratified. These three track the task groups Device Capabilities & Specifications has already delivered.

WG3-TS1PLMN ID Enablement — Test SuiteIn DevelopmentSource: WG2-TG1

Validation of device attachment to PCN (non-MNO) PLMN IDs across 4G and 5G.

WG3-TS24G/5G Band Enablement — Test SuiteIn DevelopmentSource: WG2-TG2

Validation of PCN band activation and certification for PCN.

WG3-TS5VoWiFi over Cellular — Test SuiteIn DevelopmentSource: WG2-TG5

Validation of PCN as bearer to ePDG/IMS for Enhanced Backup Calling.

Participation

Get Involved

This group is building the network of labs that will execute ODA validation. Independent test houses, vendor and OEM labs, integrators with validation facilities, and university wireless labs are all encouraged to express interest — selected partners help shape the test methodology and are first in line for ODA Authorized Test Lab accreditation.

01
Test Methodology Co-Development

Author conformance test cases, define pass/fail criteria, and validate coverage against ratified specifications.

02
Device & Interoperability Validation

Execute ODA test suites against real hardware across Private RAN and core platform combinations.

03
Accreditation & Recognition

First candidates for ODA Authorized Test Lab accreditation, and recognized in ODA publications.
